World Wide Spider
Creeping about the world wide web a giant spider goes stalking for new victims on her 20 story toes. She makes her web so sticky some kids don't make it out, eyes glued to the monitor, fingers to the mouse. She'll coat them in her special silk then suck their juice right out. © Nicky Hetherington Why? Why is it that the sky’s so blue? Or white? Or grey? Or black? Why is the ground so hard or soft? So hilly or so flat? Why is the rain so fast or slow? Why do stars shine or not? Why, when the moon comes out, is there a little, or a lot? Why are there so many questions? Why do you walk away? Why is it always ‘Ask somebody else.' I hear you say? © Nicky Hetherington |
The Dinosaurs
Last night when the clock struck twelve the dinosaurs arose roaring down the alleyways disturbing my repose. They rattled every window pane within it’s wooden frame and scratched their claws against our doors (I bet I’ll get the blame!) They knocked down several pylons so all the lights went out and started smashing roof tiles and throwing them about. They flattened all the fences, and trees were trampled too. When we looked out next morning we had such a sorry view! But… There was no sign of dinosaurs except a distant howl, still… I won’t go out on windy nights in case they’re on the prowl! © Nicky Hetherington |
